How and When to Secure the TrollTrue Lures

TrollTrue lures are designed to slide up and down the leader to aid when fighting a fish.  The lures are held in place as water flows across the lure during trolling.  If desired, the lure can be easily secured to the ballyhoo's head and held in place.  Situations where this might be helpful include:

Kayak fishing:  Often the speed is too slow and inconsistent to hold the lures in place well.

Fishing in scattered grass:  Often weeds can be cleared by jigging the line.  Unfortunately this can also unseat the lure.

Rough seas:  If the baits are skipping while trolling in rough seas, often the easiest solution is to secure the lures to the ballyhoo.

Sometimes anglers just want the lure secured, especially as they are getting used to the TrollTrue lures.

To Secure the Lure

The ballyhoo is rigged in the same manner as if it was not going to be secured.

Insert a toothpick through the eye of the nose hook.

Break off the excess toothpick to maintain a streamlined presentation.

Ensure the toothpick length is longer than the diameter of the lure opening.
